Fazal Ahmad Manawi, a former minister of justice in Afghanistan and a senior member of National Resistance Front, says that he has shared evidence of Taliban war crimes with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Manawi made the announcement on his Twitter feed on Tuesday, November 22: “Finally, the documents we obtained were handed over to the court [ICC] and necessary discussions were held at a high level of decision-making. Rest assured, God willing, we will see the results soon.”

And as Manawi points out in his tweet, the ICC is committed to ensuring that “Criminals will be brought to justice.”

Nearly a month ago, Manawi revealed that he was going to hold talks with human rights organizations in an effort to gather documents on war crimes, violation of human rights, and genocide committed by the Taliban.

Manawi had also asked Afghans to share with him evidence and documents on Taliban crimes that could be verified as authentic and had not been previously published].

On October 31, the ICC authorized its prosecutors to restart their investigations on possible war crime in Afghanistan, including those that Taliban and ISIS are accused of committing.

There have been multiple reports of war crimes committed by the Taliban since they retook power, but until recently, there were few practical measures in place to document them in a manner suitable for future criminal trials.
