A multi-million dollar cardboard factory was destroyed in a nearly 20-hour fire in Kabul, says the manager of Industrial Parks and Green industries.
It was the second major second fire in the capital city in the past 48 hours. On Monday morning, around 200 shops in Ahmadi Market were destroyed.
The fire started in the Haji Samargul and Jannat Gul cardboard factory at 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, says Nasrullah, another manager at the industrial park. “Firefighting teams arrived at the site one hour after the fire, but were not able to contain the fire for 17 hours,” he tells Zan Times.
The Taliban have not said anything about the cause of this fire or what took so long to extinguish it. But a source from the industrial park blames the lack of equipment in the fire department for how long it took to get the fire under control. He notes that the fire still hasn’t been fully extinguished.
The source says that the factory had been operating for about two years and about US$4 million had been invested in the operation, which employed more than 100 people.
Zan Times was unable to reach officials of the cardboard factory for comment. The cause of the fire isn’t known.
