Residents say that a young woman in northern Faryab province died of suicide by hanging herself.
“The body of a young woman named Roozgol arrived at Maimana hospital on Friday. She had died by hanging herself with a rope,” said a health employee in Maimana hospital, who does not want to be named.
The woman was in her early 20s, according to the source.
He added that the girl’s body was handed over to her family after being registered in the forensic medicine department in Khan Chaharbagh district.
Meanwhile, Hamidullah Mubariz, the spokesman of the Taliban police in Faryab, confirmed the incident, but said that the motive for her suicide is not clear.
This is the second case of death by sucide reported in Faryab in one week. Last week, Bibi Aisha, 40, mother of seven took her own life.
“Every day there is at least one or two women who commit suicide,” Fawzia Koofi, former Afghan Parliament member said at UN Human Rights Council in July. The causes for such acts are a lack of opportunities, mental health issues or the pressures they are under, Koofi explained.
Since the Taliban took over, they have dismantled all support systems for women, especially for the survivors of gender-based violence and it has led to rise cases of murders and suicides of women.
