An explosion that targeted a Sufi mosque in Kabul killed and wounded at least 30 people.

The explosion on Wednesday evening targeted the Siddiqiya Mosque, located in Khairkhana area in Police District 17 of Kabul city, during the evening prayer.

The Italian Emergency Hospital in Kabul said that nearly 30 people were transferred to the hospital, including five children.

“Following today’s explosion, we admitted 27 patients to our Surgical Centre for War Victims in Kabul, including five minors, one of them a 7-year-old boy,” said Stefano Sozza, Emergency’s country director in Afghanistan, in a statement. “Two patients arrived dead; one died in the emergency room.”

A local resident told Zan Times that nearly 300 worshippers were gathered for the evening prayer when explosives planted inside the mosque detonated.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera TV has reported that at least 20 people were killed and 40 others were injured in this incident.

Khalid Zadran, the spokesman of the Taliban police in Kabul, confirmed that the explosion occurred but did not provide more information in his statement.

Some media have reported that Maulvi Amir Mohammad Kabuli, head of the Islamic Centre and the Siddiqiya Mosque, as well as some of his students were killed in the explosion.

So far, no group has taken responsibility for this attack.
