The Taliban in western province of Herat arrested two children on charges of stealing money from their father, a Taliban statement says.

The statement says that the two children were arrested at a checkpoint for stealing 800,000 Afs from their own home.

The photo of the children shared by the Taliban shows that they are both under 10.

The Taliban police have said that the money has been returned to the owner but the children remain in custody.

A Taliban security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Zan Times that the children stole their father’s cash at the instigation of a relative.

According to the official, the father of these two children wants the Taliban to keep his sons in prison.

The arrest of these two minors takes place at the same time there are reports about the Taliban mistreating prisoners as well as floggings and corporal punishment. Just recently, the Taliban publicly flogged a 15-year-old boy in a sports stadium in Zabul.
