A man in the Golistan district of Farah province fatally shot his wife on Wednesday, November 30, local residents tell Zan Times. The source said the act of domestic violence occurred in Ghorzani village.

Although the motive behind this latest murder hasn’t been released, it adds to a disturbing number of similar killings in Afghanistan.  Data shows that the number of cases of domestic violence, femicide, and suicide of women have increased in an unprecedented manner since the Taliban regained control. Analysis by Zan Times of the cases that are reported by the media shows that in the last 11 months alone, 214 women have been killed. Experts believe the increase in sexual and gender violence in general and femicide in particular is due to evermore restrictions imposed by the Taliban against women, as well as a dismantling of a support system for victims of domestic violence, and  mental problems aggravated by  poverty.
