A young woman was taken to the provincial hospital in Uruzgan province with injuries caused by severe beating, residents and health sources say.

“On the morning of Thursday, November 3, a young woman who had been severely beaten was brought to the hospital, but she died after a few minutes as a result of internal bleeding,” says a hospital source who spoke to Zan Times on condition of anonymity. According to this source, bruises and severe injuries caused by blows were seen on the head, back, and waist of the woman, and she was bleeding heavily from her nose.

A resident of the provincial capital of Trinkot city says that the dead woman was the mother of four children. “Due to family problems, her husband beat her so badly that she died after being taken to the hospital,” he adds.

Sources at the Uruzgan provincial hospital say that this is the fourth case that the hospital has recorded since April of a woman dying as a result of beatings and family violence.

Experts say that violence against women is increasing as male relations know they can act with impunity now that the Taliban are in power. Since last year, the Taliban have dismantled all legal, and institutional support for victims and survivors of domestic violence. The Taliban have dismantled the ministry of women’s affairs and the Independent Human Rights Commission, thus wiping out systems that tracked and helped women dealing with violence, including the shelter system.
