A Taliban scheme that has been demolishing hundreds of homes in Pul-il-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province, turned deadly when a man died of a heart attack after his three-story home was destroyed. And a relation blames the Taliban razing for his death.
The dead man was identified by a relative as Fazal al-Rabi, a resident of the Shashsadkoti area of the third district of Pul-i-Khumri. The relative, who asked for his name not to be used, tells Zan Times, “With a lot of difficulties, Fazl al-Rabi had built a shelter for himself, but the Taliban destroyed it. He could not bear the situation and died due to cardiac arrest.”
Ahmadwali, one of Fazl al-Rabi’s neighbours, confirmed his death in a conversation with Zan Times, saying, “Fazl al-Rabi was working for a demining NGO before the Taliban regained power, after which he was unemployed for a long time and recently started driving a taxi to provide for his family.”In the past month, the Taliban municipality has been demolishing houses in six districts of Pul-i-Khumri, including Shashsadkoti, Shahrnau, and Agriculture road. So far, at least 400 homes have been torn down, residents say. The Taliban says the destruction is necessary because the homes are located in a designated green area.
