A father who reportedly suffered from mental health issues, used a knife to behead his three young sons on Saturday, October 2 in Shirsurkh village of Dand district of Kandahar province, a relative confirmed to Zan Times.
“He always beat his wife, now he has beheaded his three sons who were 13, 9 and 6 years old,” one of Naqibullah’s relatives told Zan Times.
Mullah Abdul Razaq, the Taliban police commander in the district, has confirmed the incident to the media and says that Naqibullah is under arrest. He also said that Naqibullah has confessed to his crime and that the motive for this murder was poverty. “After killing his three sons, this man buried them in the dark of the night,” Razaq said.
The social and economic situation in Afghanistan has dramatically worsened since the Taliban takeover. In late August, the UN said that more than half of the country’s population, nearly 24 million people, is in need of immediate assistance, of which 19 million face acute levels of food shortages. In turn, these deteriorating conditions have placed a massive stress on households and has resulted in a surge in domestic violence, including murders.
