Residents of Bamyan say that at 10 a.m. on September 25, a woman was shot and killed by an unknown person in the city centre, eyewitnesses told Zan Times. A hospital employee said the victim was Halima, a 48-year-old woman, resident of Shahidan area of Bamyan city.
“The woman was hit by four bullets, one of which hit her in the back of her head,” the sources said on condition of anonymity. They added that some parts of the woman’s body showed signs of a beating.
The Taliban say no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Taliban has dismantled all legal and institutional systems of support for female survivors of violence at a time when threats to women’s safety have significantly increased in the country. The Taliban dismantled the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Independent Human Rights Commission that registered cases of violence against women and provided them with legal support.
