The Taliban in Faryab province say that “carelessness” by their forces resulted in five people being injured in Maymana city on Tuesday evening.
Health sources in the province say that a hand grenade explosion by Taliban forces near Hazrat Omar Mosque in downtown Maymana resulted in five people being wounded, including a woman. All of the injured brought to hospital are civilians and one is in critical condition, the source adds.
Hamidullah Mubariz, the Taliban police spokesman in Maymana city, confirmed the incident, saying that the explosion occurred due to “the accidental release of the fuse of a hand grenade” by two Taliban gunmen.
Mohammad, one of the wounded, tells Zan Times, “I was sitting in front of my shop, and suddenly saw that something was thrown towards me. I immediately threw myself on the ground and then I don’t remember anything. When I regained consciousness, I was in the hospital.”
There have been previous reports that the Taliban’s careless use of their equipment, weapons, and vehicles have resulted in people being killed and wounded.
