A suicide bombing at the Russian embassy in Kabul killed two employees as well as at least four Afghan citizens on Monday.

The bomber targeted the consular entrance of the Russian embassy, where business and student visa applicants line up, an eyewitness told Zan Times. He said he counted 20 people who were either killed or wounded in the attack. “Reception of citizens in the Consular Section is temporarily suspended. The resumption of admission will be announced later,” tweeted the Russian embassy after the deadly bombing.

The Taliban police spokesman in Kabul said that three people, including two Russian embassy employees, were killed and 10 others injured. Later reports raised the overall death toll to six.

Russian state network RT reported that “the slain embassy workers were an assistant secretary and a security guard.”

Russia’s  foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, announced that it has increased security at the embassy following the attack. (Though Russia does not recognize the Taliban government, it continues to maintain diplomatic activities in Afghanistan.)

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
