On Saturday, three people were killed and at least four others were injured in an explosion in a mainly Hazara Shia area western Kabul, witnesses say.
The incident took place a few metres from the entrance gate of the electronic identity card-issuing branch in Police District 13, a local resident who was nearby told Zan Times, adding that the explosion happened at around noon during rush hour.
Three people were killed and four others were injured, according to the witness.
Another witness told Zan Times that the Taliban opened fire when people gathered at the scene after the attack. “The three dead are Taliban soldiers and when the crowd gathered, the Taliban opened fire and injured at least three people,” the witness who asked not to be named said.
However, Khalid Zadran, spokesman of the Taliban police in Kabul, says that only four people were injured in the explosion, including two members of the Taliban.
According to Zadran, the explosion was caused by a bomb placed in a motorcycle, which had been parked a few metres from the office’s entrance.
The local resident adds that, in addition to the loss of life, the targeted building and surrounding buildings were damaged. This ID card-issuing branch is located in Dasht Barchi, western Kabul, in a residential area.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for this explosion.
In the last two weeks, successive explosions have rocked the Hazara Shia area in western Kabul, including two deadly explosions during Muharram, Shia holy month, which killed and injured 120 people,, according to a UNAMA tweet.
